The child-king, presented

Gospel: Luke 2:22–35
Presentation of the Lord

Jesus, today You are carried into the Temple by hands that are tired, faithful, and poor. Nothing about the scene draws attention. A young couple obeys the Law, offers two turtledoves. A righteous old man waits, a child is held, and yet, everything turns here.

You allow Yourself to be presented—placed into the arms of Simeon, entrusted to ordinary people, and received without resistance. He does not rush his words but holds You long enough to see what others miss: that salvation comes gently, and that peace comes with a price. You are light, yet You pierce hearts. You console, yet You challenge.

Mary is silent; she listens. You let her know that love will wound her—not as punishment, but as participation--a sword will pierce her heart.  She receives even this word, storing it where only God can see.

Jesus, many of us come to You like Mary and Joseph—bringing what little we have, living faithfully without clarity nor certainty, carrying love we cannot protect from suffering. Teach us not to fear being presented to You as we are, and to trust that what is placed in Your hands is never lost.

Prayer: Jesus, receive us today as we are, and teach us to rest in Your light, even when it asks everything.
