The cost of a truthful voice

Gospel: Mark 6:14–29
Lord, today the Gospel draws me into the shadowed hall of Herod’s court, where fear, vanity, and violence silence the voice of John the baptizer. John speaks the truth without force or cruelty, yet his fidelity costs him his life. Power trembles before truth—and chooses comfort instead.
This story unsettles me because it is not distant. It lives quietly in daily life, where truth is softened to avoid tension, and silence is chosen to preserve peace. Often, conscience is negotiated for approval. John does not argue. He does not defend himself--he simply remains faithful to what You placed in his heart.
In the stillness of prayer, I sense that You are not asking me for heroic gestures, but for interior honesty—faithfulness in small, unseen choices, even when misunderstood. You remind me that truth spoken in love may still be rejected, yet it is never wasted, because in Your Kingdom, no faithful word disappears.
Prayer: Jesus, give me the courage to remain faithful to truth, gently and firmly, trusting that You receive every offering made in love.
